It has been a while since I did a night sky or astrophotography post. On a recent trip to the Poconos, there was a night of good weather to try to get some shots of the night sky.
One thing I like to do is take wide field photographs of the sky that would be much more difficult in my light polluted home town. The area around Promised Land State Park is much dark than home, albeit not at the level of Cherry Springs State Park.
A faint, early Autumn Milky Way.

Star trails – one looking west and another looking northwest.

Next, we have deep sky object, Messier 27 or the Dumbbell Nebula. Spotted by Charles Messier in 1764, Messier 27 was the first planetary nebula ever discovered. The term “planetary nebula” is a bit of a misnomer based on the nebula’s round, planet-like appearance when viewed through smaller telescopes. The nebula is the result of an old, dying star that shed its outer layers in a glowing display of color.

These photos were all taken with SeeStar S30 Pro.
